JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Do you want to contribute to a safer society? As a correctional officer in a prison, you are the foundation of security work. You work in teams with other professionals to maintain a safe and secure environment and to motivate clients towards a life without crime. Daily tasks include locking and unlocking residential rooms, inspecting premises, and monitoring, as well as conducting conversations and preparing for release, among other duties. The role of a correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness. The work is varied, and there are many development opportunities for those seeking continued employment. It is important that you share the fundamental values of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service regarding a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop and change.

You will start your employment with an introduction at the workplace. There are good opportunities for a permanent position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• A completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
• Good computer skills.

It is an advantage if you have:

• Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and social care.
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• Relevant language skills.
• A valid driver's license (B).

OTHER INFORMATION

We have high demands for our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. To work with us, you need to undergo a security clearance in accordance with the Security Protection Act. The position is classified in a security class, and a security clearance involving an interview and background check will be conducted before a hiring decision is made. During the security clearance, your background and relationships will be investigated from a security perspective. You will receive more information about the security clearance and any forms to sign during your employment interview.
